The Women’s Exchange, shown here c. 1935, was started in 1918 and sold homemade items, baked goods, antiques, and needlework supplies. It started as a seasonal shop, and the Exchange rented shop space at different locations each summer. This building still stands, but has been moved back from the road.

The wide selection of goods offered by the Exchange are shown in this c. 1935 photograph. In 1931, the shop was located in the old Whitman Studio on Ocean Avenue, but by 1935, it had moved to Lower Village and was open year round.
